Consequences of Monogamy in Western Culture

Monogamy in our Western societies does
not come from Christianity and certainly not from the Bible it was imposed by Romans When Christ lived the Jewish people were polygamous The New Testament does not talk about Polygamy Since the Jewish population was important in the Roman Empire it wasn’t necessary to talk about it Jesus’ teaching regarding divorce for example is hardly applicable today merely because
theologians transposed their own monogamous context to Jewish husbands of the time whom Christ had forbidden to divorce any of their spouses and to exchange her for another A bit later in 70 CE Jerusalem was destroyed during the great Jewish war Israel disappeared from the map 1.1 million Jews were killed and another 97 thousand were enslaved to the point that – because of the
oversupply in the slave markets – prices collapsed And when the Romans extended
to prohibition to have more than one wife to all subjects for the 2nd time in 393 CE and compelled the Jews to relinquish their custom they were not induced to conform in contrast pagans who converted to Christianity a movement that became less and less Jewish and more and more Roman were therefore monogamous In Judaism – according to biblical instructions – Polygamy was legal but prostitution was forbidden With the Romans however, Polygamy was illegal but prostitution was widespread most prostitutes were slaves slaves were objects and therefore could not marry And, the slaves’ children were legally born slaves even if their father was Roman The high divorce rates in Western culture are a phenomena that is due to Monogamy Why? Monogamy requires that two people are a good match But love is blind Since it takes a few years to find out whether the chemistry is right or not so many marriages get divorced Because by the time you become aware of it you are already married In Polygamy however, affinity cedes its importance to group dynamics In a group it is 1) easier to live with a person who has a difficult character and 2) the different tasks are divided among
each other according to each other’s strengths In other words instead of the coach being annoyed that the goalkeeper is not a good scorer the whole team will appreciate him precisely, because the opponent can score goals In addition, men need sex more often than women Uuhh… but sex, that leads to arguments Oh really? When 2 kiss together on TV You feel neither disgust, nor jealousy but lust you
