IBEI Graduation Ceremony 2019

IBEI Graduation Ceremony 2019

It’s an event where all of IBEI comes
together; professors, students, staff… to celebrate that the academic year has
passed, that the exams are over, that the stress is over, and that the coursework
is done. It was a personal journey as well, you’re
making a big decision to come here and study. You learn about yourself a lot;
it’s a trip that, you know, will stay forever, and I’m very grateful to have
been able to study in Barcelona, this beautiful city, and have met all the
people that I did. There is very much a sense of community,
everyone knows everyone; you go to classes together, you socialize
together, and because there aren’t that many people there’s a real sense of
solidarity there and it’s also just wonderful getting to know people from
countries all across the world, with different viewpoints, different
perspectives sort of coming together, it’s incredible. Welcome to this
graduation ceremony for the class of 2019. I hope you have probably enjoyed
this year as master students in Barcelona. To the parents and the
families, welcome. This is the moment where we celebrate what we’ve been able
to do with them, what they have learned, and what as Fulya said, we’ve learned
from them. Good afternoon to everybody. I guess you are happy, very happy,
so congratulations. It’s a fantastic day for you. You are graduating into a world where our troubles are too many, and we cannot
afford to sit back and watch the world go by; but we do not need a super hero to
save us either I don’t need to tell you to be one, because you already are. The next big question becomes: what are we going to do next?
We usually get words of inspiration saying that the world belongs to us. We
have to continue working and fighting for the values we know to be fair. For far too long our leaders have practiced politics as the art of the possible
and the practical. It is time we practice politics as the art of making what
appears to be impossible possible. Congratulations for your achievements in
this course at IBEI, and in the name of the faculty of IBEI, I wish you a very very
good luck in your future personal life and professional career. It’s been really great today to see our students,
no longer students, but as these young adults who have developed academically,
but they have also matured as persons. Then I think the most important occasion
to celebrate is actually the friendships and the bonds that they have
forged that would hopefully last a lifetime. Students and alumni who stay in touch with each other, help each other out, and
in their own little way, or not so little ways help make the world a better place.
