Logic Pro | How to Use Markers to Create Your Song Arrangement | James Bernard | Pyramind

Hi everyone this is James Bernard and
I’ve been asked by Pyramind to do a video for Beatport I’m using the
arrangement markers in Apple Logic Pro X to create a song arrangement I’m gonna be using Apple Logic Pro X for this video one of the new features in Apple Logic Pro X is the arrangement markers and this is a really quick way to get an
idea for a song fleshed out without having to do a whole
lot of copying and pasting and editing and things that you used to do
in the past so what I’ve got here is I’ve got a little 6 track 16 bar idea or a phrase an if you played
everything together there’s a whole lot going on so it’s not really gonna sound like this
when you’re talking about finish song but just to give you an idea of what it
sounds like ok ok ok so there’s a fair amount going on at the
same time there so what I’m gonna do is I’m going to show the global tracks or and we do that by clicking over here and with the global tracks you can
actually set up a number of items to be showing up in the section if you were to
right click over here you can configure exactly what you want
to see everything from a movie if there’s clips
time signature transposition cambodia mapping all that so for this process and
basically just going to be using the arrangement and the markers you’ll notice that the first thing that
comes up is right away on the arrangement track it already has something called intro
and thats preset and ready for me so what I’m gonna wanna do at this point
is I’m going to 12 select this arrangement or intro part
I’m gonna want to repeat it and women appear isn’t just gonna do the
simple copy and drag these guys over and in a couple times so I’ve got these just repeated up now I want to work with different sections have this arrangement so I’m
gonna start adding additional arrangement markers and just gonna drag them to resize them
to be exactly the length what I want don’t pay any
attention to the names just yet because we’re gonna change that what I earnings ASM adding arrangement markers
it’s just picking up right at the end up where the last one
what’s so since I’m not really doing a pop song I don’t
think I’m gonna be using the intro verse chorus chorus format so we’re gonna go with what’s a intro we’re
gonna go with this 1i want to change it gonna change to mean phrase and this 1i think I’ll call it that
minimal phrase it’ll be more stripped-down version and then just for the ability to do something a little bit
more stripped-down let’s go to the build or break so for the inter phrase but I think I’m
gonna do is we’re just going to keep the chimes parts here I will take up that pace say the tops
for the first aids and then we’ll bring in these drums at the second eight mind about their and will take up the courts for the main phrase what
I’m thinking is something with the charms and that tech base their take out that minimal ace they got the
cords again for the minimal phrase what I think I’m
gonna go with is just this minimal bass and the cords pick up times and then for
the build a break I think for doubt I’m just gonna stick
with the Giants tech base and the tops right so I’ve got four defined little
sections here and if I wanna hear them you know
obviously if I jump to them this way I’ll well I can jump by moving my cursor to the point where I wanted to start or
what I could do is take the sections here I’m gonna put
a marker and each one of those points but when they are 18 17 the three and will put one at 49 put my list over here my event list and
i’m looking at the markers I can see where the star points are and
what their names are and blanks are a little off so I wanna
make sure the links for it 16 for each one of these so we have 4 defined markers if I wanted
to a good is also rename them as well to be the same thing
that we have a top just to keep it simple now what I can do at this point is this is where want the song would say I want the song
to be an intro I mean phrase a minimum of reasonable break-in and I might
repeat the whole process but that’s my markers for where I wanna
jump in the song but what I actually may want to have contained within that intro may not be what I’ve
got up here and this is where the arrangement
markers come into play so as it stands right now if I play this
and by holding down option I can listen to this next one here well well well and you know what as I’m listening to
that I think I actually might want to do this particular bill break as the intro
instead well here’s how the arrangement workers come into play I
could just click this area click and drag that over here
and just like that what happened is everything that’s underneath that marker
that bill break it’s now moved to that section and
everything else gets pushed out of the way nosair want the intersection to be
somewhere back over here I can select both these phrases and then
I can just scoop them forward and the injured just keeps getting
pushed back to the to the back end and so just like that I’m actually
completely change the way the song was laid out i jus scooting around summer these
sections right here now let’s say I wanted to take that mean
phrase and have their come right after the minimum phrase before this intro well pretty simple
just select that hold down the option of Alt
key click and drag it put it right there and
now we’ve got a repeat that mean phrase so just like that I’m starting to flesh
out really quick arrangements on so you can see how using the arrangement
and the marker sections can really make the whole process
building up an arrangement from just a simple 16 yr a par loop a
very quick and fun process hope this video has helped you get some
ideas about you can use the arrangement markers and global tracks in your productions and hopefully I’ll see you shortly with some other
tips. the very much like think there might
have been here once again and I think this institution is really
cool and until I came here for the first time I’ve never seen anything like it in
my whole life what I think really separates us from other people who teaches that we
are outrageously passionate about what we do especially
electronic music since it’s gone your mind I discovered electronic music
min San Francisco being a mecca for
underground electronic music opened up so many doors for me and kinda blew my mind be cover everything from absent to you contact when people get to the mind
melting level we did a modular synths everything about Native Instruments everything
about logic since down team finest detail you learn all the fundamentals understanding how
things work that’s just the stench but then beyond
that there’s so much more math for kids into just a lot of the artistic side play creative approach to why you do
something not just how there’s a lot of schools that just know
that focus on the technicality a recording sick but I want something
that would foster creativity and and Lee helped me develop
this artist as well the charge on a specific programs come
to Fort Myers there’s a basic and advanced
professional and then a master’s level masters levels
of course everything we do is the largest and most powerful programs the
week in Queen Creek these
