Posterior Chain Engagement in the Squat


When I push the knees out, I can engage the posterior chain more. When this externally rotate, the glute medius, which is a very strong squat muscle, gets fired up. That’s how we get less of a butt wink. With more engagement of the posterior chain, it puts the spine in a stronger position. It develops awareness in the athlete about posterior chain engagement.
