7 Things No One Tells You About Long Distance Relationships

7 Things No One Tells You About Long Distance Relationships

– Today’s the day. Let’s do this. (playful electronic music) It is currently 3:13 right now, and it’s been exactly 54 days since I last saw my girlfriend. And today, I get to jump on a plane, fly 2,000 miles, and see her for the weekend. I only get to see her six or
seven times a year, maybe less. Long distance relationships
are made up a lot of… it’s a lot of waiting. It’s almost like in these
relationships we put ourselves through a heartbreak every
time we go and see each other, because we know at the end
of our meeting together, we’re going to have to go
back to our respective places. And that sucks, it honestly sucks. It sucks that I haven’t
seen my girlfriend 54 days. It sucks that when I get there, I’m dreading the day that I have to leave. It sucks to know that I’m gonna
be crying on the airplane, flying back to California. It sucks that the only real
moments we can have together are just a sliver of time
where we have to condense everything that we’re supposed to have experienced as a couple into three days. I just got to the airport. I think the key for me right now, and the hardest thing, is trying not to think
about when it’s over. One thing I do hate is flying. I dunno, I just don’t
like being in a small room with a lot of people, in a moving vehicle, so… (smooth electronic music) Oh my gosh it’s so cold. Let’s go find Ying. But seeing her for the
first time in 54 days reminds me of why it’s all worth it. – [Steven] Hi!
– Hi. Wait dude, we need to go there, look how many cars are behind us. – [Steven] Oh my gosh, hi!
– Hi. – [Steven] Hi!
– Okay, stop. – And we really do cherish the moments more so than any other couple that I know. But I’m tired, I just flew
across the freaking country. Like the moments we get to celebrate all of our missed anniversaries. Whoa, you got me shoes! – [Ying] I don’t.
(laughing) – Thank you, Ying. – [Ying] You’re welcome. – [Steven] And the
moments our relationship picks up right where it left off. – [Ying] A beautiful day out. – With a beautiful lady. And then there are those moments that we get to explore the
city just like we used to. Where are we off to? – It’s called North Market. (lighthearted electronic music) – Not to mention, make up for all the meals that
we missed eating together. All right, we got our food, I got phở, she got Indian food, let’s eat. And eventually we just
start to settle back slowly into what used to be. Those moments where we just watched TV, hung out with old friends, shared inside jokes, and just walked around
enjoying each other’s company. All of those moments that
make long-distance worth it. But then of course, life doesn’t stop for us, you know? Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, what’s up Ying? What are you doing? (Ying laughs) – The struggles. So we’ve come to the time
where we’re gonna start planning the next trip where
we get to see each other. This is the time where we just kinda ease back into the real world. I guess in the end what we learn is that long-distance is really, really tough. But sometimes I do feel
like it’s a struggle that we were meant to go through. To make us stronger. Because I mean if we can get through this, then we can get through anything, right? We just have to trust each other, and love each other, and give each other our all. Call me naïve, but, I think it can work. It never, ever, ever gets easier. I told myself this time
I wasn’t gonna cry. I remember the first
time I dropped Ying off at the airport after she visited me. I cried to hard at that
I was blind driving home. It was the most dangerous
drive I’ve ever done. And then I cried the time after that, and the time after that, and now it’s the fifth time. It just never gets easier, you know? Gotta go back to reality. Oh man, the sniffles are coming. (melancholic electronic music) (jagged electronic buzzing)

  • I was in a long distance relationship, together almost 3 years and long distance for 8 months. Found out I got cheated on. Distance really will make or break people.

  • In a long distance military relationship and can honestly say we've never been more in love. Long distance relationships work, IF you put the work in!

  • It hurts more if you have to wait for atleast 10 years more for you guyys to hopefully see each other i mean come on

  • The last time I saw my bf was August “17. It was already nice that we saw each other once for two weeks before he had to leave again. But made me believe that no one can ever complement me as much as he does. LDR is tough, but so worth it for the right person.

  • It truly sucks every time I see him leave. It literally breaks my heart but you know what, it's totally worth it 👌💯

  • Long distance is very hard, but the moments we got to see eachother was amazing and I speak in pass tense because I moved up to be with him and now we are engaged and enjoying life😁😁

  • It will work if both part actually wants it to work, and if they actually want to plan to be in the same place somewhere in the future of their lives together 🙂 was in a long distance Sweden – Indonesia for 1,5 years and now going on our 5 months of living together. Still cherishing every moments and being thankful for what we have now! ❤️

  • I have seen my boyfriend only only 6 times these 3 yrs and each time we only had a day! And it's been a year since I last saw him

  • It's the hardest feeling not getting to see your beloved one everyday. But if waiting means we get to be with them, its worth the thousand hours we spend without them. ☺

  • No it never is easy, every time I see my husband in India I know I will be holding his shirt crying as I come back to the states. But I married my husband for good and bad and I'll never give up on him and he will never give up on me

  • I'm so excited but do scared to meet my Boyfriend because I know I'm too emotionally unstable to be okay when we need to be separated again, but I wish I could just hug him more than anything in the world :[

  • The closest person to me is 700 miles away. We have never met before. The year this video came out was the year we also began dating and coming back to watch this video three years later is just wow. Crazy how well me and my bf click and are able to communicate but if kills me not having those everyday things like holding hands and eating but I'm glad to met him and I wouldn't change it for the world because we love each other more than anyone could love anything. Thanks to Steven and ying for this video 🥰

  • My boyfriend and I are 3,759 miles away and I’ve known him for 2 years now, sadly we haven’t met yet 💔 hopefully as soon as I turn 18 we’ll visit each other

  • I saw my guy last month. The time before that was 2 yrs ago. Its really hard. Ive tried to let go and he was waaaay less willing to let me go. I just thought it would be better to let go. Because he lives in Uganda and im in Canada, the ticket is sooo expensive so neither of us can come so often. It is way harder.

  • I just see my fiance 2 weeks per year and then going back to my country 14 hours. But the wedding is finally this December! All those months apart.. 4.. 5 sometimes 6 months are all worth it!!

  • Been in a military long distance relationship for 3 years & yeah it sucks lol but the wait is sooooo worth it when you love someone so much.

  • It's not worth it unless you can afford to. It's not worth it because it's a horrible feeling not being able to see them when you want to. In this situation, people only want you because you're there for them, when someone else comes along that lives alot closer you're done 🤷 it's just not worth it and everyone who says it is, I'm glad you found happiness 10,000 miles away and wish for the best 👍

  • You think you know it’s hard but it’s really hard when you guys don’t get to talk as much when you use too.

  • I had a long distance relationship, we loved each other very much but his mom was the problem… we had to break up I felt threatened by her all the time

  • Long distance relationship here! 🙂 I actually just dropped my first video with my long distance boyfriend, I would love if you could check it out ❤️ https://youtu.be/ytMwUdD9dks

  • Its been half year since the last time we've seen each other, God knows how bad I missed him every single day. Like its true that everytime you guys have to say goodbye, its not getting any easier. I knew I'd get to see him again, but man.. Its sucks, I cried all the way back from his place, like crying in the car for 3 hours, crying at the airport, crying on the plane, crying on the train, crying all day and after I got back for few days still found myself crying from missing him. My eyes were totally swollen for a week 😢

  • so sad. they broke up 🙁

  • I'm going to go see my bF in his home country in October. One thing I always tell people is LDR are not for the faint hearted. They require a lot of trust, dedication and loyalty. It also requires a lot of patience. You do learn a lot about caring for another person's feelings and communication. There also needs to be a lot of trust. I cant wait to be with him. We'll probably do it in the airport haha

  • Idk if it's just me…. but I feel like he's into her a lot more than she is into him. Then again I'm only seeing what's on camera and I dont know them behind the camera… and maybe she just have her own unique way of expressing her love and emotions….. so I'm sincerely hoping that things are different off camera… otherwise, he's wasting his time.

  • Yea last time i saw my boo, it’ was back in September 😭😭 now he’s currently in Ireland and he might be back next year 😭 love you so much Niall 😭♥️

  • Keeping tab on your Wife or partner isn't something i'd suggest you dive into, notwithstanding, if you need to clear any doubt concerning what secretly goes on in your relationship, contact [email protected] he is quick to accomplish results without fail just like he did the last time when i hired him, so i have to make reference to him. he paid great attention to fact as a legit expert and aided me to catch a cheat and his fee is affordable

  • As I’m watching this, I’m 2 days from leaving to go home after visiting my boyfriend of 8 years in a different country. I am feeling so depressed now, and I’ve cried every time when I leave. But I’m so glad we have ways to stay in touch, I get to “see” him everyday when we video chat and we text each other throughout the day. It’s definitely eaiser than what it used to be, expansive overseas phone calls and slow mail. I still enjoy mailing him letters, it’s personal and tangible. Although it’s hard, but we love each other so much, it’s all worth it when we can finally live together in the same country which is what we are working towards.

  • My boyfriend and I are a state away from one another and it's hard to keep a long distance relationship especially when we both have classes, work and lives from each other the reality is hard honestly I get your pain, cause I'll only see him during the holidays at a train station but still it's sad. 😭

  • Known my bf over a year and a half, seen him for the first time a week ago. And he’s already planning to come back for a second visit then hopefully move by the end of the year😭💕😍😍😍 it’s worth it. 100% worth it. Strongest connection I’ve had with any other bf.

  • I get to see my girlfriend 3 or 4 times a year only… And I agree. It is gut wrenching to separate each time. I just wanna hug her endlessly in those moments

  • I've only seen my bf once for three days. We've been together for 2 years and it's rough but love gets us through it ❤️

  • When you said it sucks the day you see her and you are dreading when you have to leave; I could totally relate to that. My boyfriend is in Germany and I'm in LA.

  • Florida to LA here! The first time I see him is in October ❤️ He moved out there for a job opportunity and I’m so proud of him ❤️❤️

  • Steven , she does not love you as much as you love her.(am i the only one who thinks like that)she barely responded

  • I’m going though this thing with this boy but he lives 38 minutes from me but I can’t always be with him and be in a long distance relationship. Is this videos a sign from god

  • I’ve been in a LDR for 4 years now, the last time I saw my boyfriend was actually a few weeks ago but that was the first time we’ve seen each other in two years. I can definitely say it is hard, especially if you don’t have a job yet so no frequent visits. Really sucks but also worth it. As hard it is being in a LDR there is so many benefits to it such as communication, being able to just sit and talk to one another whether it be how your day is to deep conversations. Also seeing each other in person is so precious, I remember seeing my boyfriend again and being just filled with happiness and excitement. I cherished each moment we had together. Also LDR isn’t going to last forever. There will be a time when you two will decide to want to get married and honestly that is what I’m waiting for. So to all my fellow LDR out there hold on while you can!! Stick through it and next thing you know, you two will be together in person for good. 🙂

  • Waited a year and a half, desperately trying to get to each other. Countless times we almost fell through. The heart ache and chaos and desperation and stress was all worth it. I'm laying in bed with her right now.

  • I am planning to meet my girlfriend this Christmas during my vacation. It is going to be surprise for her. I will be meeting her after more than 2 years.

  • It can work! I have done long distance for 4 years now and I am getting married and moving in next year! I di believe it makes a relationship stronger and you cherish every moment sooo nuch

  • Vancouver, Canada and UK such a long distance to be in a long distance relationship. We're going to see each other very soon in person next year for the first time, honestly i'm a bit nervous but yet excited. We love each other very much and we care about each other. No matter what, we will always talk to each other on the phone and hopefully in the future we'll move in together

  • We are apart for last 3 months…..😭😭😭😭😭😭😭….and still 1.5 month is there to meet coz hi is in military….and that's our engagement next month october 2019…..I'm excited but sad as well…..😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️..I miss u babe…

  • I’m 17. My boyfriend is two years older than me and he lives in England I live in Japan… and we can only see each other twice in an year😭

  • Me and my fiancé spent 4 years apart, we had to take turn to fly across the country to see the other. It was tough, I cried a million times and almost gave it all up. But we got engaged for 2 years now and moved in together last year. so yeah, it works if we know how to work it out.

  • I miss him so so so much😢😭😭 that it makes me feel really so sad😭 LDR ARE TRASH😭But we can do it❤good luck everyone
